SHOW NOTES:
In This week’s Mind ReMapping Moment, we talk about the Difference Between Power & Force in Our Communications.
Sometimes we think we are being powerful when in fact we are confusing power with force. We all come up against obstacles when we strive to improve the quality of our lives, work and relationships and many times we force solutions.
When we are accustomed to pushing through everything we end up having the inflexibility of behavior to always make people to always do things your way. When this becomes a habit it is good in certain circumstances but in most areas of life it is an unhealthy way of doing things because you end up ignoring the signals from your body, the universe and other people that your force isn’t working.
When we think of finding ways that are alternatives to using force then we are thinking of flexibility of behavior and we all know that the people who control the systems are the most flexible ones.
When we talk about flexibility of communication, flexibility of behavior, expansion of our listening and our capacity to be flexible, what we are talking about is the redirection. How do we redirect conversations? How do we redirect behavior, redirect energy, redirect our own capacity to experience emotion and to regulate ourselves so that we can be powerful in a situation at any given moment.
When we talk about force versus power: force is pushing through something, while power is the utilization of a situation, a circumstance or communication, to be able to navigate it towards an outcome that you really want.
Being flexible in communication and interaction means to be flexible in listening, because listening drives our behavior. And a lot of times in using force is in communication, it’s telling someone, telling, telling, telling rather than dialoguing yet it is listening that opens up dialogue.
Power implies there’s an even more profound impact that is made and can be made with velocity so when you have power, you can have that impact and you can have that impact go deeper and quicker with less resistance. Whereas, force is having to push through resistance to get a result. Therefore, the difference between power and force is the amount of flexibility or fluency one has in the communication or the behavior.
Despite what most people realize, it’s the unconscious mind that runs us. But how is that so? Get your first primer in 25 minutes! Follow and Share these pearls with others.
